Present
Status Quo Situation
Chinese
leaders have been repeatedly assuring the international community,
that China wants is global peace for it to focus on economic growth
and improve the life of it’s 1.2 billion people40.
However, analyst have pointed that China has many unresolved
territorial disputes with it’s neighbours and has on occasions
resorted to force against Vietnam and has not renounced the possible
use of force against Taiwan. On the other hand, China cannot be argued
in any convincing manner that it is a revolutionary or reformist
state.
China’s era of radical international activism in the 1960s
and 1970s coincided with the period where it was weak and therefore
seek to pursue an ideology goal in the world scene. The pursuit of
ideological goal in foreign policy and action is a luxury that can be
afforded by the very great power (with much to expend) and little
power (with little to lose)41.
China is either a minor power and it’s rapid economic growth has yet
to alleviate it to a super power status at the moment. It would be in
the interest of the Chinese to maintain the present status quo in
order to continue it’s economic transformation. The price of
altering the world order which she has benefited is not in the Chinese
interest. |
