Profile and Description of Central America Cichlids

Red Devil Cichlid (Amphilophus Citrinellus)

Profile:

This fish is also commonly call Midas Cichlid/Lemon Cichlid.

Distribution : Central America, southern Mexico, Lake Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Honduras.

Size : Up to 10 inches.

PH : 6.8 to 7.5

Temperature : 230 C to 290 C

Hardness : Slightly soft to slight hard water.

Diet : Omnivore. Feeds on small live foods such as small fish, worms, insects and invertebrates. Also does well with cichlid sticks and pellets preferably the sinking type. Poor feeding might cause the lost of the fish great coloration. 

Breeding :  Open spawner - Egglayer

Sexual Difference :  Males are bigger and often with a  hump on the forehead though this is not entirely accurate.

Description:

Needs at least a 75 gal tank as this fish is very aggressive towards other fish. House in large aquaria will reduce their aggressiveness. There are a few varieties of Red Devil, including an Albino form.
