Some
of the most common Cichlids have homes in South America. These include
the Angel fish, Discus, Oscars etc. Some of these are huge but there are
other that are in the dwarf category. In terms of reproduction, Cichlids
fro South America also varies from the mouth brooders, cave spawners to
open substrate spawners. Most however are monogamous.
Most
South America Cichlids will do well with temperature near 270
C, with a few degrees warmer for breeding. They are either from the
Amazon River channel (with clay, rich in nutrients, neutral PH and soft)
or from region with black water (nutrient poor, very soft and moderately
to extremely acidic. They are therefore more dedicate and demanding as
aquarium fishes.
