Live Foods
Daphnia (water fleas). Small aquatic crustaceans. Feed
as treat or to supplement to dry food. Readily relish by most
fishes.
Brine shrimps (Artemia).
They can be hatch from mail order. Feed
them when they are newly hatched or grown them to adults before
feeding them to the fishes. Can be used for both fresh water and
marine fishes.
Mosquito Larvae. These worm-like larvae laid by
mosquitoes are ideal for surface feeding fish as they are normally
at lurking at the water surface.
Blood worms. These worms get their name from the
blood red coloration. They are taken by all fish big and small.
Tubifex worms. These are collected from
mud ponds and hence many aquarists blame them for transmitting
diseases. But they are traditionally a favourite live fish food. It
is good to thorough wash them and make sure that are red and pinkish
before feeding to the fishes.
Earthworms. Another traditional fish food. Ideal for
large fish. Can be collected from gardens.

Dry Foods
Flakes and Crisps. Flakes are the common and versatile food for
fishes of all sizes. The modern
processing technology has enabled
fish food manufacturer to customise all kinds of flakes for all
types of fishes, from freshwater to marine, herbivore to carnivore
and for fishes that require red, blue or other natural colorations.
Crisps are a variation of flake; they are circular in shape.
Granules and pellets. Comes in a
range of sizes to suit the
various sizes of fishes.
Floating Sticks. Normally for pond fish such as Koi and
goldfish. Cichlids are also quite fond of floating sticks.
Sinking tablets. These are used for bottom feeders such
as
cat fish and loaches. These are quite hard and can be grazed upon
by the bottom feeders. Algae tablets are quite expensive. |
Freeze-dried
Foods
Tubilex worms, daphnia, Blood worms,
etc. These normally comes in a can.
They are first frozen with their water content extracted. When these
food comes into contact with water, they normally increases in size.
Frozen foods
Frozen live food. These comes in a metal foil or blister
pack and must be stored in a refrigerator. These frozen food can
include tubifex & blood worms, beef heart, mysis, brines shrimp etc.
Liquid Food
Liquid fry food. These are for feeding of fries. |
