Pseudotropheus Zebra

Profile:

Distribution : Lake Malawi..

Size : Up to 7 inches.

Temperature : 220 to 29 0 C (higher temperature for breeding).

PH : 8 to 9.0 

Hardness : Medium hard to hard, moderately alkaline water.

Diet : Flake, freeze fried & frozen and pellet food. Staple should be food containing algae/vegetables.

Breeding : Open polygamous, mouth brooder.

Sexual Difference :  Males are normally bigger with more and bigger egg spots on their anal fins

 

Description:

These fishes comes from the rocky coast of Lake Malawi and the aquarium should be aquascaped likewise. Extremely lively and easy to keep. For successful keeping, the tank can be over-populated with 1 males with several females of each type. 

Avoid feeding too much food containing protin such as blood worms as they can easily develop "Malawi bloat" which is rather lethal.

Pseudotropheus Zebra (Cobalt Blue).       This was one of the first fish that was introduced into the tank in Jan 2001.  It grew from 3/4 inch to about 4.5 inches in about 1 year. Extremely active as in any zebra, this is a delight to observe especially during feeding. 

Likes        :   Cobalt blue colour under the lighting.  Take food from your hands. Active and inquisitive.
